FAQ

  • When and where will the DWSS family reunion be held?

The family reunion will be held from Friday August 2 – Sunday August 4, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Is there a host hotel and if so, what is the room rate?

The host hotel is the Courtland Grand Hotel, 165 Courtland Street, NE, Atlanta, GA 30303 which is located in downtown Atlanta. We have secured a block of 25 rooms for the family reunion. The room rate is $132.00 per night plus 16.9% tax and a $5.00 state fee. This rate is available 2 days before the reunion and two days after the reunion.

  • What is the format for the family reunion?

The family reunion committee has been working hard planning an unforgettable weekend. The format will continue the traditions of our past reunions which will include a welcome event on Friday, a breakfast/ family meeting on Saturday morning, family dinner Saturday evening as well as a worship and memorial service on Sunday morning before adjourning the weekend. We are also planning to introduce some new family reunion traditions as well. Please see itinerary for details.

  • What is the registration cost for the family reunion and what does the registration cost include?

The cost is $200.00 per person for adults, $150.00 for children 5-12, and for children 4 and under free. The registration fee includes the following:

     - Welcome reception

     - Saturday breakfast

 - Saturday dinner with DJ and after party

     - Sunday brunch

 - Atlanta African American Cultural Tour

     - T-shirt

     - Family picture (1 per family)

  • When will registration open and when is the deadline?

Registration will open on February 15, 2024 and the deadline is on June 30, 2024.

  • Can people pay the registration fee in installments?

You can spread out the payment process if you like.

Here’s an example - If you have 3 people you want to register, you can pay for one person in February, another in March and the last person in May if you like.  That way, you can minimize the impact on your wallet at one time.

  • If I register for the reunion and for some reason am unable to attend, can I get a refund?

The registration fee is non-refundable.  We are all making a financial commitment for the family to gather together and if for some reason a person can’t make it after registering, we hope that the dollars will be contributed and they will used to defray unforeseen costs for this year’s reunion or used as seed money for the next family reunion.

  • Who will be the point person for people to call if they have questions?

Raye Dowdy White volunteered to serve as point of contact for questions people may have prior to the actual reunion.  During the actual reunion, the Welcoming Committee members (Tadasha, Thelma, and Loretta) will be the point people.
